Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all work carried out by Defender Plumbing & Drainage. By instructing us to proceed with any work, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the terms below.

1. Pricing & Payment

Standard visit: £150 covers up to 90 minutes on site. Additional time is charged at £25 per 15 minutes.

Emergency out-of-hours attendance: from £199 for active leaks or sewage backing up, subject to availability.

Materials: supplied at cost + 25%.

Payment: due on completion by card or bank transfer. Cash is not accepted.

2. Scope of Work

Work is limited to domestic and light commercial plumbing and drainage, including:

  • Leaks and visible pipework repairs
  • Toilet repairs and replacements
  • Tap and valve replacement
  • Blocked toilets, sinks and gullies
  • Radiators and radiator valves

No gas work, boiler servicing, commissioning or certification is offered.

3. Existing Pipework & Age-Related Failure

Many plumbing systems contain pipework, fittings and components that are old, corroded, scaled, brittle or previously repaired. While reasonable care is taken, disturbing or isolating existing pipework may cause leaks or failures in nearby sections that were already weakened or at the end of their service life.

Defender Plumbing & Drainage is not responsible for age-related or pre-existing failures of pipework, fittings or components where no negligence is involved.

Any additional repairs required as a result are chargeable.

4. Latent & Hidden Defects

Some defects cannot be identified without dismantling, draining systems or removing coverings. These may include corrosion, failing joints, perished seals, cracked fittings or incorrect previous installations.

Defender Plumbing & Drainage is not responsible for hidden or latent defects that only become apparent once work has commenced.

5. System Draining, Refilling & Boilers

Where work requires a plumbing or heating system to be drained and refilled, there is a known risk of:

  • Airlocks
  • Sticking valves
  • Pumps failing to restart
  • Boilers entering fault or lockout

These issues are commonly caused by pre-existing wear, sludge, scale or component fatigue. Defender Plumbing & Drainage does not accept responsibility for boiler faults or failures following drain-down work where no gas work or boiler servicing has been undertaken.

6. Valves & Isolations

Existing stopcocks, isolation valves and service valves may be seized, partially functional or internally degraded. If a valve fails to reseal or begins to leak after operation, this is considered pre-existing deterioration.

Replacement of failed valves is chargeable unless explicitly included in the agreed scope of work.

7. Drainage Limitations

Drainage systems are often concealed and cannot be fully assessed without specialist inspection. Clearing a blockage does not guarantee resolution of underlying issues such as collapsed pipes, root ingress, incorrect falls or damaged pipework.

Defender Plumbing & Drainage cannot guarantee that a blockage will not recur. Structural drainage defects are outside the scope of standard clearance and may require CCTV inspection or further remedial work at additional cost.

8. Manufacturer Warranties & Parts

New parts supplied and installed are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty only. Defender Plumbing & Drainage does not provide warranties on manufactured components.

If a part fails under manufacturer warranty, replacement of the part may be covered, however labour to diagnose, remove or refit the part is not included and is chargeable.

9. Customer-Supplied Parts

Where customer-supplied parts are installed, no warranty is provided on the part itself. Labour to remove or replace faulty, incompatible or unsuitable parts is chargeable.

10. Consequential Damage

Defender Plumbing & Drainage is not responsible for consequential damage arising from pre-existing leaks, defects or concealed damage, including (but not limited to) damage to plaster, decoration, flooring or cabinets, unless caused by proven negligence.

11. Best Endeavours

All work is carried out on a best-endeavours basis using reasonable skill and care. Plumbing and drainage systems, particularly older installations, cannot be guaranteed to perform fault-free following intervention.

12. Force Majeure

Defender Plumbing & Drainage shall not be liable for any delay, failure to attend or inability to perform work due to events beyond reasonable control.

  • Severe weather, flooding or storms
  • Traffic incidents or road closures
  • Utility failures
  • Illness or injury of the sole trader
  • Supply chain or parts unavailability
  • Government restrictions or emergencies
  • Emergency call-outs overrunning due to risk to life or property

In such circumstances, appointments may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled without liability. No compensation for loss of earnings or consequential loss shall be payable.

13. Acceptance of Risk

By instructing Defender Plumbing & Drainage to proceed, you acknowledge the inherent risks involved in plumbing and drainage work and accept that additional faults may arise once work begins.

These terms are intended to be fair, transparent and protective for both parties while reflecting the realities of plumbing and drainage work.
