Press-fit plumbing
Press-fit is a modern method of joining copper pipework using engineered fittings and a powered press tool. It creates a strong, reliable seal — without soldering, and without open flames.
🔧 Installed using RIDGID press tooling — the professional standard
No hot works
No blowtorch, no flame, no fire risk — safer for your home and cleaner on finished surfaces.
Fast & tidy
Each joint is made in seconds. Less time on the tools means less disruption — and lower labour cost for you.
Consistent results
Every joint is mechanically uniform. No variability from hand-soldering — just a reliable seal, every time.
In plain English
Press-fit creates a factory-quality joint on site using controlled pressure instead of heat. It's cleaner, faster, and reduces risk — particularly when working near finished surfaces or in tight spaces.

When is press-fit a good choice?
Works well for
- Leaks and pipe repairs
- Replacing isolation valves and stop taps
- Radiator valve (TRV) swaps
- Properties where hot works carry risk
- Jobs where a clean finish matters
Not always suitable
- Where access is too tight for the tooling
- Where pipe is damaged or distorted
- Where a different joint type is more appropriate
If press-fit isn't the right call, the best alternative will be explained before any work begins.
Press-fit vs solder
Press-fit
Solder
No flame or heat required.
Requires open flame and flux.
Fast and mechanically consistent.
Speed and quality vary with conditions.
Cleaner — no scorching risk near walls or floors.
Higher risk of heat damage to nearby surfaces.
Preferred for quality domestic work.
Still appropriate in some situations.
Press-fit FAQ
Is press-fit reliable long-term? +
Yes. When installed correctly, press-fit joints are extremely durable and are the standard method
across commercial and high-specification residential plumbing.
Could it leak? +
Any joint can fail if installed incorrectly. Every joint I make is tested before I leave site —
you won't have me walk away from a job that isn't right.
Is it more expensive than soldering? +
The fittings typically cost a little more than soldered alternatives, but installation is usually
faster — which can offset the difference. Labour is charged at £98 for the first hour
and £49 per 30 minutes thereafter, plus materials at cost.
Can press-fit be used everywhere? +
Not in every situation. It depends on access, pipe condition, and what the job requires.
The best method will always be chosen for the work — and explained to you before starting.
What happens if the job gets more complicated once work starts? +
Older plumbing can reveal hidden issues — corrosion, seized valves, concealed leaks — once work begins.
If that happens, I'll stop, show you what I've found, and we agree next steps before anything
additional is done. No surprises on the invoice.
