Press-fit plumbing
Press-fit is a modern method of joining copper pipework using engineered fittings and a powered press tool. It creates a strong, reliable seal without soldering and without open flames.
No hot works
No blowtorch, no flame, and no fire risk — ideal for modern homes and older properties alike.
Fast & tidy
Quicker installation with less disruption and cleaner results on repairs and upgrades.
Professional technique
Widely used in commercial plumbing for its consistency and reliability.
In plain English
Press-fit creates a factory-quality joint on site using controlled pressure instead of heat. It’s clean, fast, and reduces risk when working in tight or sensitive areas.

When is press-fit a good choice?
Great for
- Leaks and pipe repairs
- Replacing isolation valves
- Radiator valve (TRV) swaps
- Properties where hot works are risky
- Jobs where neatness matters
Not always suitable
- Where access is too tight for tooling
- Where pipe is damaged or distorted
- Where another joint type is more appropriate
If press-fit isn’t suitable, the best alternative will be explained before proceeding.
Press-fit vs solder
Press-fit
Solder
No flame or heat.
Requires open flame.
Fast and consistent.
Dependent on conditions and skill.
Cleaner on finished surfaces.
Higher risk of scorching or damage.
Press-fit FAQ
Is press-fit reliable long-term? +
Yes. When installed correctly, press-fit joints are extremely reliable and widely used in commercial plumbing.
Will it leak? +
Any joint can leak if installed incorrectly. All joints are checked and tested before leaving site.
Is it more expensive? +
Fittings can cost more than soldered joints, but work is often faster and cleaner.
Labour is charged at £98 for the first hour and £49 per 30 minutes thereafter, plus materials.
Can you use press-fit everywhere? +
No. It depends on access, pipe condition and location. The best method will always be chosen for the job.
What about older plumbing systems? +
With older plumbing, issues can appear once work begins (corrosion, seized valves, hidden leaks).
Any changes to scope or cost are explained and agreed with you before proceeding.
